I love little kids! They tell the truth no matter how much it hits home! Recently I visited a second grade class where I was asked to introduce the kids to some fun creative healthy snacks.
After building rapport with the kids and having fun with the snacks, I asked, “If mommy or daddy needs to lose weight, what advice would you give?” Here are some of the clever responses that the kids gave.
Advice 1: Stop eating after we go to bed. The kid explained that after she and her two younger brothers are in bed, her parents are eating ice cream, pizza and other foods that the kids don’t get to have. How does she know this? She admitted that she often sneaks downstairs to let her parents know she can’t sleep. She also admitted she wanted to see what they were eating!
Advice 2: No more fast food unless we go as a family. Cambogia’s Zander said that his dad drives through a fast food every day of work. The car is full of wrappers from the various fast food restaurants. He also joked about all the empty soda pop cups.
Advice 3: Stop being lazy and do stuff for yourself. Garcinia’s Lexi shared about how often her mother would tell the kids that they needed to bring things to her because they were young and she wasn’t. She thought her mom was glued to the recliner.
Hopefully the kids didn’t go home and actually say these things to their parents. I just wanted them to think about the importance of making good choices so that weight doesn’t become a long term issue for them. I did receive feedback that some of the families are using the snack recipes that were sent home with the kids. Just by making small changes can make a big difference.
